Meal Equivalency FAQ

What it is:

Meals from the Waypoint Snack Bar are available to board students in cases where class conflicts prevent students from eating in the dining hall during regular meal hours, Monday through Friday (11am-1pm).   The meal will consist of: an entree, accompaniment, drink and dessert (see box lunch form for details).  Meals must be picked up before 4pm daily.

How do you qualify to get Meal Equivalency?

The student must have a board plan (21, 17, 12 or 5 meal plan), and have classes scheduled during the whole of the Main Dining Hall lunch hours (11am - 1pm).

Students must fill out a Meal Equivalency request form, either by picking one up at the Main Dining Hall cashier's station, Waypoint snack bar, or CLICKING HERE.

Students must fill out the top of the form in full, check off the days of the week that they have class conflicts, and bring the form to the registrar's office to verify schedule conflicts.   Completed forms should be returned to the Waypoint.

Please be aware : meal equivalency are only available on the days of registrar approved conflicts that are verified on the form and not for conflicts other than classes without prior Dining Services managment approval.

I filled out my form and returned it, now what?

Students who have been approved for meal equivalency may pick up a boxed lunch form either at the Waypoint or by CLICKING HERE.   Forms may be filled out and returned ahead of time.   Students may pick up their meal on the day of their request anytime between before 4pm on the day of their conflict.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT MEAL PLANS ALLOW FOR ONE MEAL PER PERIOD.   THEREFORE, IF YOU HAVE FILLED OUT A BOXED LUNCH REQUEST, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EAT LUNCH IN THE MAIN DINING HALL ON THAT DAY.

Other frequently asked questions:

I missed breakfast today and want to use my box lunch for for that meal, can I still go to lunch?

Sorry, box lunches are ONLY available for use to replace lunch period meals unless you have gotten prior approval from a Dining Service manager.   Your meal plan only allows for one meal per meal period, so if you don't use it, you lose it.

I might miss a meal because of another reason, can I get a boxed lunch?

Sorry, no.  Equivalency is only for class conflicts, not other conflicts such as working or other activites.   If you have a pressing conflict, you need to talk to a Dining Services manager BEFORE your conflict to see if we can help you in a different way.

What if I have a 17 or 12 or 5 meal plan and run out of meals?

Each box lunch that you use takes a meal off of your meal plan for the week.   If you have a 21 meal plan, you should not have this problem.  If you have a 17 or 12 meal plan and still have flex available on your account, we will be able to take the flex equivalency for your meal ($4.95 off of flex).   Unfortunately, we are unable to take Declining Balance, cash or check for a boxed meal if you do not have either meals or flex or have a 5 meal plan and are out of meals.  Please remember that all meals, including some sports away meals, and Late Night breakfast also takes a meal off of your account, so please plan your meals accordingly.

What if I use a meal equivalency where I'm not approved for one?

Please be aware that this is a service to you, and the Waypoint would be unable to handle the amount of requests if we opened it to everyone.   Because of that, those who are found filling out an equivalency where they have not recieved prior approval may be subject to being asked to pay for their meal or even disciplinary action.

I don't qualify for equivalency, but may be missing meals.   What can I do?

For the most part, other meals are not covered with meal equivalency, but if you have a valid concern for missing meals, please come talk to a Dining Services manager, we are here to help.
